Planning something similar? I can spec the kit, source the crew and handle the electrics.

While gaffering some additional shooting for a short film on Dartmoor, several large night-time exteriors called for a big moonlight source. For this I used a 12kW Arri HMI mounted on a crane.

Detailed location scouting was essential for a variety of reasons. The crane operators had to check the ground was suitable for such a large crane, the distances between the light and the action had to be compared against the lamp’s photometrics, and the placement of the generator and cable runs had to be agreed.

On the night of the shoot there was a huge amount of fog, which is common on the moor. While it did reduce the output of our 12K, it made for some very dramatic photos of the shoot.
